Name the criterion
Identify the exact essential or desirable requirement you are addressing.
NHS NURSING APPLICATIONS
A strong nursing supporting statement makes it easy for a shortlisting panel to match your evidence to the person specification. Use specific situations, actions and outcomes rather than repeating that you are hardworking, caring or passionate.

A STRONGER STRUCTURE
Identify the exact essential or desirable requirement you are addressing.
State where the example happened and why it mattered without using half the paragraph on background.
Explain what you personally assessed, decided, communicated, changed or contributed.
Describe a real result, feedback, change, reflection or outcome without inventing numbers.
Make the relevance to the vacancy explicit so the panel does not have to infer it.
EXAMPLE THEMES
A difficult conversation, MDT coordination, patient or family communication, escalation or advocacy example.
A situation where you coordinated, supported, delegated or contributed to safe team working.
Risk recognition, incident learning, documentation, audit, policy or quality-improvement evidence.
An example of influence, prioritisation, supervision, teaching, improvement or taking responsibility.
Training or reflection connected to a real change in practice rather than a list of certificates.
Show values through real behaviour and decisions rather than simply copying organisational words.

Use examples to learn structure, not as text to copy. Shortlisting evidence must be accurate, personal and relevant to the specific vacancy.
Follow the application system and employer limit. Prioritise essential criteria and evidence rather than filling space for its own sake.
Show safe practice, communication, teamwork, prioritisation, escalation, professional development and the requirements listed in that specific person specification.
The evidence usually needs to show greater leadership, influence, governance, service improvement, supervision and accountability at the level the role requires.
Support should strengthen your own accurate evidence and structure. You remain responsible for ensuring every claim in an application is truthful and reflects your experience.
LIVE VACANCY?
If the deadline is real, bring the job description and person specification and build the application around evidence the panel can assess.
